Fell # 1 by Warren Ellis, Illustrated by Ben Templesmith
I finally read the first trade paper back of Fell the other day, something I’ve been holding off on for some arbitrary reason. Well, it’s mainly because this series has a bad history with scheduling releases, as there are only 9 issues out (the TPB a collection of issues 1-8) with the 10th still under production (last time I checked). I’m not holding this against the series, both creators are busy individuals whom I respect greatly as artists. It’s just that I’m already in a bad relationship with a series known for its long delays.
The school I am currently attending on a full time basis is located on Harbourside and Fell. Each and every day I ride the bus and get off at Fell street with an overwhelming urge to vandalize the street signs with the Snowtown symbol (the symbol on the individual’s neck seen above). I felt that it would probably be best that I read the book before I start tagging heavily surveillance street signs, for fear that I would be caught and labeled a poser for not knowing the meaning behind it all.
After reading the book in a single afternoon, I can recommend it to anyone with interest in sublime cop dramas that are thoroughly disturbing. Like Dexter meets Dark City. Actually that’s a pretty shitty description. It’s good: worth time and money. The writing is good and the art is nothing if ot a perfect match for the mood. I’ll just leave it at that.
