Album cover art for New Junk Aesthetic by Every Time I Die
I am not a fan of Every Time I Die but that’s probably because I never gave them a chance, then again why should I? I usually don’t enjoy things referred to as metalcore (for more on that read this year old post), I’ve seen Every Time I Die live - at a festival - and was bored enough to talk strangers (ew), and I do NOT need to listen to a band called Every Time I Die. I’ve never sat down to listen to them as I’ve always had a gut feeling that I knew it would be time wasted and my gut is really good with this kind of stuff.
It’s a shame that the cover art for their latest album is FUCKING AMAZING! Seriously, I get a fucking harder-than-steel stiffy for good album artwork and I just ripped through a fresh pair of briefs over this thing. It looks similar to the works of Baroness singer John Baizley (see here) but I found it interesting that it is actually the work of ETID guitarist Jordan Buckley.
I want to listen to this album purely because of the artwork. Has anyone heard this yet? Is this worth my time to listen to?

Would make a fitting theme song for Hit-Girl.

I understand Hardcore and I understand Grindcore, but I don’t even try to pretend that I understand Metalcore, because I don’t. The reason being is because the majority of the band that fly the “Metalcore flag” tend to suck. The majority of metalcore that I hear is basically Brian Posehn’s theory of “metal by numbers” in full effect. It seems like a genre that wants to have its cake and eat it too — it wants mainstream appeal yet it wants to appear “aggressive.” I do agree that the term “metalcore” (as an insult) gets thrown around way too often.
What I have been told about Misery Signals is that they are a higher breed of metalcore. I don’t know what to think of them, I may plainly just not like them, however they just recently recorded their new album with Devin Townsend (of Strapping Young Lad fame) as producer so I may have to give them some credit. Others should give them a chance, I guess.
Here is their latest video, directed by the (at this point in time) prolific David Brodsky, aka MyGoodEye.
